Equal access remains a top priority for the 嫩草影院 as the organisation works towards a community without barriers.
One year from releasing the Access and Inclusion Plan 2024 – 2029, a number of deliverables have been achieved, reaffirming the City’s commitment to an inclusive community.
The City’s Access and Inclusion Plan guides capital works as well as planning to meet the needs and aspirations of people with disability.
嫩草影院 Deputy Mayor Nastasha Colliver said it was important for all Council projects to consider inclusivity and accessibility when it came to planning.
“It is our ongoing priority to ensure everyone has equal access to City facilities, services, programs and events,” she said.
“We’re continuing to identify where we can make changes to improve our service delivery and our goal is for everyone in our community, and those visiting, to feel welcome.
“We want people to enjoy our premier locations such as our Foreshore and beaches regardless of ability.
“Our commitment to this is seen with initiatives such as access to a beach wheelchair, beach matting and upgrades to the equipment in our Changing Places facility,” Deputy Mayor Colliver added.
The City’s Changing Places facility on the Geraldton Foreshore recently received an upgrade with the installation of specialised equipment including a changing table and ceiling hoist.
Ensuring the facility meets the highest standards of safety, comfort and usability, the new equipment represents the latest in accessible technology.
The Changing Places facility is located at the public toilet block on the Geraldton Foreshore between the Youth Precinct and Regional Sounds.
To access the facility keys are available at the Sail Inn Snack Bar, Geraldton Multipurpose Centre, Two Foreshore Café, and the Customer Experience Desk at the Civic Centre. Alternatively, individuals with their own MLAK key can access the facility directly.
The City’s ongoing actions towards access and inclusion fall under the “Connected” theme of the Strategic Community Plan, which reflects the organisation’s commitment to a community where everyone feels included.
